Baptismal Statement by Christian Burkhead
April 24, 2005

I have decided to get baptized this spring because I feel I am ready to accept the changes it will bring. To me, baptism means always working towards doing good. I will accept that Jesus will be guiding the rest of my life. I think that God and Jesus will be my guidance when I’m not sure what to do.

In my spare time, I can usually be found reading a book. I mainly read fantasy books about slaying a dragon, saving the land from evil, etc. Most of the time it’s a teenage boy who goes on the quest, like the boy in Deltora Quest who has to retrieve a number of gems in order to defeat the evil Shadow Lord. I can see my life as a Christian relate to this. God would be the king. My friends would be my partners, and my parents would be, well…my parents.

Also, there are a few people I’d like to thank for helping me on my journey. First of all, I’d like to thank my parents for always being there when I needed them. Next, I’d like to thank my friends for always being beside me no matter what. I also owe my sister some credit, even if she’s annoying sometimes, because she can be a good friend, too. Finally I’d like to thank this church for things like the male bake offs and the passport trips, where I had fun with my friends while learning about God.

I hope I can now, like in the books, take the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit. And with this armor of God I will go on a quest, not to slay a dragon or evil sorcerer, but to become a better Christian.
