Week 8: Play That Funky New Music, Angel
Read Rev 14-15. Remember: No class meeting April 11, due to Holy Week.
- In Rev 14, what do the 144,000 have inscribed on their foreheads? How does the voice from heaven sound?
- Who can learn the new song? Count how many different ways the 144K are described.
- Read carefully Rev 14.4. What in the world might this verse mean?
- What do the first, second, and third angels say to all the earth’s people?
- Who are blessed by the Spirit in 14.13? Why are they blessed?
- Describe who is on the white cloud, and what he does with his sickle. Who else has a sickle?
- Who is the last angel in Rev 14, and what does he do?
- Where is God’s winepress and what does it produce? What might this mean?
- Do you share the belief that God will punish those who follow false gods? Does this belief fit with a God who cares for all people and saves them?
- Describe the scene in Rev 15.1-8: who stands beside the sea of glass, and what are they doing? What does the song foresee, and where do the plague angels come from? Who gives them the bowls, and what happens in the temple after this?
- Get a copy of the Battle Hymn of the Republic by Julia Ward Howe, and list the imagery you see that comes from Rev 14.
- Consider Rev. 14.10-11. Is there a hell, and, and if so, what is it like, in your opinion?
